Seasonal Advisory

Summer (June - August): Book Channel crossings 2-4 weeks ahead. Cabin availability on overnight routes (Newcastle - Amsterdam, Portsmouth - Bilbao) sells out early. Irish Sea crossings are busiest on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Winter (October - March): Some routes reduce frequency or suspend. Portsmouth - Le Havre typically suspends October to March. Irish Sea and Dover - Calais run year-round. Overnight routes may drop to 3-4 weekly sailings.

Practical Info

Currency: Pound Sterling (GBP). All UK port ferries price in GBP. Cards accepted everywhere.

Documents: UK passport holders need a valid passport for all international ferry crossings. EU/EEA nationals need a passport (ID cards no longer accepted post-Brexit). No visa required for short stays. Check gov.uk for the latest ETA requirements.

Driving: The UK drives on the left. If arriving from continental Europe, remember to switch sides when driving off the ferry.

Island ferries: For Scottish island ferries (CalMac, NorthLink), Isle of Wight (Wightlink, Red Funnel), and Isle of Man (Steam Packet), see UK Island Ferries (coming soon).
